A.N.: This is not a late entry to last week’s PromptGame. It is simply something inspired by the prompt. Constructive criticism is highly appreciated.
The eight-year-old swatted away his older cousin’s offered help and set to work on the letter tiles on his rack. He had the perfect four letters for the word he had in mind. And the perfect number of spaces left as well.
All around the scrabble board, the cousins watched in silent anticipation as he arranged looked from the board to his tile rack and back again. He put one letter under the other. All eyes were on him, but he didn’t care. This was a word he knew by heart.
He straightened with a wide smile on his face. Gasps and hoots sounded from around the board.
On the triple word corner, he had spelled out the word “ALIEN”.
