Unspoken understanding

“Aaaaaaah!” I opened my eyes, wide awake. It was only a nightmare. I dreamt that I was chased by some assailants who were ALMOST going to kill me.

Even after realizing it was a nightmare, I feared to get up from my bed. Suddenly, someone said “meow”. Who was that? Oh! That was my cat. I laughed at my own stupidity.

Again there was a ” meow”. My cat was hungry. But I was too scared to get out of bed, let alone feed him. As I was not feeding him, he climbed on my bed and started meowing in front of my ears. I didn’t know why, but that pacified me. I gathered up my courage and got up.

I went to the kitchen and took out his container of fishes. I was standing alone in the kitchen and feeding him, and looking out for anything that seemed to kill me.

After some time went by, I didn’t feel scared anymore. It was as if the company of the little creature made me brave. He somehow understood my fear and accompanied me. He comforted me.

Pets cannot speak to us in any language, but still it can understand us. Without saying anything, they somehow get to know our feelings. They share our grief and happiness by standing by our side. It is ironic that humans hurt their own species for their own goal, but these little creatures always remain loyal.

  1. This reminds me of She and Her Cat (Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko). Let’s not get into the feels tho. Smooth and simple drabble with a theme many can relate to. Awesome! Keep it up!
